As you have already guessed by now, we were not abducted by wild woodsmen. But, I do have a tale or two to share with you. We called it a night around 9:30 and headed into the tent. It was a little humid but not bad. All was well until around 1:30 or so. In the field just 10 yards from the tent, we heard an animal. This is where it gets strange. It was making a very strange sound. It was a long whine that sounded like someone was saying "Ouwe". I at first thought Aubree had left the test and was trying to go to the bathroom outside of the tent without her shoes. It was not her. She was sound asleep so it was not her. About 20 minutes later, I could hear it about 20 yards farther from the first sound. It would make the same sound and then be quiet for about 20 minutes. I heard it 4 times. This is where the family feud starts. We are unsure exactly what wild animal it was. There are several possibilities:
1. a chupacabra. A chupacabra is a legendary cryptid rumored to inhabit parts of the Americas, and Americas means it could be in Mt. Vernon. Chupacabras are known to be bloodsuckers. In fact, their
name means "goat sucker." This makes perfect sense to me because there is a farm less than a mile
from us that has about 20 goats. This beast could live in the woods by our house, cross I-44 and get
get those goats and then come back to our woods to raise its young and live. It is a possibility. I have
seen several specials on this animal and know that it exists along with Big Foot, Yeti, the Lockness
Monster and several rare animals. :)
2. a bobcat
3. the neighbors tom cat.
I'd like to think it was a chupacabra and that we are alive just by the skin of our teeth. That makes the
campout exciting and one we will not forget. I don't think the thin sides of the tent would have been
adequate protection. The second
event was the rain showers that hit after 4 am. It didn't last long maybe 30 minutes. Luckily, we put up
the rain bonnet on the tent. That is the old Girl Scout training coming through in my daily life.
"Always be prepared."
We woke up and our day went normally, well as normal as our days go.
I had to take Samurai to the groomer. Elizabeth, Amelia, and I went bike riding. We rode 12.5 miles.
Boy, it was sure humid and hot. We were like sweaty blobs when we got home. Sorry no pictures of
that pretty sight. I cleaned up and then
went to the Vet's Home for their annual picnic. Good times. Steve sprayed some weed killer in the
yard to get rid of those pesky weeds that grow in the driveway, around the trees, and any place else you
don't want them to grow. He also got a little warm and is suffering from that now. We came inside in
the afternoon and enjoyed the air conditioner. We have no plans for this evening except to watch a
Civil War special American Pickers and Pawn Stars. Like I said earlier, we love Civil War Week.
Steve has already gone to sleep, but he has given me strict orders to wake him up in time for Pawn
Stars. You see, Rick it going to try and purchase a Gatling Gun. I also think he gets to shoot
it. Lucky, Rick.
Tomorrow we have chemo. We have an early appointment because Steve does not like to go late
because they seem to be running behind in the afternoon appointments. We are not good waiters.
Tomorrow night, I'll let you know how it all goes. It is a regular appointment, and we will be seeing
Faith not Dr. Hoos. I don't expect any issues or problems. Steve is going to try to get some
motion sickness patches for the cruise. They suggest he uses these or takes pills so he does not get
sick. They say it is hard to get a chemo patient over it once they get it. Once again, we will go
prepared.
Oh, it is June 1, and I must report about the blog. Since last April, I have had 255 posts, and over
5,300 hits. This is so hard for us to believe. Some days we have as many as 15-20 hits. Last month,
we had over 300 hits. Holy cow. Thanks again for letting us be a part of your day. It makes us feel
special.
