It is hard to believe that the weekend has come and gone. It seems that it was just Friday night and now I am packing my lunch for Monday morning. We didn't really do a lot, but we had a good time. Grandma and Grandpa came over Friday afternoon to play a game of pool with Steve. Grandma was the cheerleader. Grandpa beat Steve. This shocked Steve since he did not realize that Grandpa was such a good player. They had a good time. It was fun for both Grandpa and Steve. I think Steve now thinks he must practice more so his dad does not beat him again. He does not like loosing. I told him that now he knows how I feel. :) Friday night we met a couple of our friends at the Bean for a drink or two. We had tea and coke, but it is the idea of being out of the house that counts. It is always nice to just relax and catch up with good friends. Saturday, I went to Springfield where my friend, Karla, helped me "recycle" an old jumper into a long vest. We also made a pattern so I could make more from that design. We went to Hancock Fabric and got some new material. I bought a couple yards of material to make wine gift bags, some nice summery fabric to make a new purse, some flowery material to make a new vest. I'm excited about my new projects. Hopefully, I will have them completed by this coming weekend. None of the projects are difficult, but they are good therapy for me. We went to church this morning and to Grandma's and Grandpa's for dinner after church. Mike, Kaleb, Kyle, Lorna, David and Tammie also joined us. It is nice to have a "family" dinner. Grandma is such a good cook. She was apologizing for dessert, which was a simple chocolate cake with homemade icing. We told her that was silly and finished all but 4 small pieces. Sometimes it is the simple things that really hit the spot.
Oh, I have to tell you about this text that Steve got. We were at dinner today and his phone vibrated and it was a new message. He listened to his voice mails and nothing. He handed me the phone and was worried that something was wrong. I looked and discovered it was a new text message. Since he doesn't know how to text or even check his messages, I did. Oh, my gosh. You would not believe the picture someone had sent him. It made my face turn bright read. It was like porn. I showed him and he nearly dropped the phone. It was from some number he did not know and we are guessing it was sent to him by mistake. I wish you could have seen his face when he saw this "porn" picture. Of course, he had to show Mike and David. They got a kick out of it too. The picture was so bad that Steve would not show his dad. He will never take up texting or learn to check his own messages now. He feels violated since he has been sextexted. It was hilarious. I am belly laughing just telling you about it.
Steve has been feeling ok. He has been really tired in spurts. Sometimes he is all fired up to go and do, and other times, he is totally wiped out. He still needs his daily nap and that helps him maintain throughout the day. His has been great. He eats some much some meal, I think he will blow up like a dog tick. We go back for chemo this Thursday. I know he is dreading this. We don't talk much about it coming up, but I know it is in the back of his mind.
He went to Grasslands on Thursday to turn in some paperwork from Dr. Hoos. Yesterday he got his official release letter from them. He is no longer employed by Grasslands. This is just a formality since he has not worked for them in over a year. He no longer can get his insurance through them and is now on Cobra. He will be qualified for Medicare later this year or early next. They said that the coverage should not change, so that is good. He was a little upset about this when he got the letter. I think the sentence about not returning to work with any available accommodations got to him. It is not that he doesn't want to work, his body simply can't. I think he would give anything to be back in the truck working the farms. It is a Doss work ethic thing. His mother and father raised him right. He takes such pride in his work and is a perfectionist in everything.
Oh, I'm not sure if I have told you how Kyle's last test came out. It was good. They could find no issues. He can do whatever he feels like doing without any restrictions. Today he said he is feeling great. We are so thankful that this did not turn into a serious lifetime problem. Once again God has blessed the Doss family.
Kaleb is getting ready for his life after college. He has a couple of interviews coming up. We wish him the best of luck and hope that he finds a job that he will like.
Elizabeth and Aubree are still in TX. They went to the beach yesterday and spent the night. They are coming home sometime this week. Earlier this week, Opa told her how much he missed her and she told him "to get over it." She is sure a pistol. We miss her around the house. Elizabeth go some of her school preparations taken care of. She has to go back in June to complete the rest.
Koleen is doing well. She was accepted to the business school at the University of Missouri last week. We are proud of her. She is still busy at Chili's and is saving money for her apartment for next year. She has mentioned wanting a bike also, but I am not sure if she was serious or just wishing. She will be staying in Columbia again this summer taking classes and working. This is better for her since there is nothing here in Mt. Vernon...no jobs or anything as far as entertainment for a college gal. She should be home for Spring Break at the end of March.
Amelia is doing well. She has been busy moving her boyfriend, Jeff. He sold his house and will be living with his parents until he can get a trailer moved on his land. He first has to dig a well and put in a septic before he can "live" on the land. All this can't be done in the winter, so it is my guess that he will be busy with that this spring. It has worked out well that Aubree has been gone and Amelia has been able to help him move.
Well, you are now all caught up on our lives. This post reminds me of a true pea goulash. It is made of a little bit of everything that when take by themselves is nothing, but when put together makes a wonderful post. Have a great week and enjoy life. Remember you are in our heart and prayers. :)
