Today we have several that feel under the weather. Amelia has a bladder infection and a small kidney stone. She went to the doctor yesterday and got some medicine. This morning she was fine when she left for school. She did get really sick at school. She was throwing up and dizzy. She could not drive so Steve went to Pierce City to pick Amelia and Aubree up. Amelia thinks that since she took her medicine last night and again this morning it made her sick. The directions were to take one daily. She is also feeling fluish. You know the stomach upset and aches. She is going to try to go to school tomorrow.
Steve does not feel well either. He was fine until about 5:30. His stomach was really upset and he felt throw uppy. He said it was not chemo sick, but he thought it was fluish too. He did go to bed at 5:30 and was immediately out. He is still sound asleep and it is 7:25. I am not going to wake him since he does not feel great. Other than this hitting him this evening, he has been doing well. I have been very proud of him. I really hope it is nothing more than a little upset stomach. I know the flu makes you feel yucky. Steve has his next scan on Monday.
I feel ok. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get what they have. I really don't want to have to use my sick days for me being sick. I was hoping that since I am eating healthy and exercising that I might not catch anything this year. I do disinfect the machines at the gym just incase there are nasty germs. They had a report on our news show, Channel 1, this morning about people not washing their hands. They say that cell phones have the most germs of anything. The most common germ is e-coili. ( I am not sure if that is spelled correctly.) I clean my phone quite often. I put Germ-X in my hand and then plaster it all over my phone. The kids were disgusted by the fact that a majority of people do not wash their hands after using the restroom. I told them that they should be disgusted since a LARGE majority of middle schoolers do not wash their hands after using the restroom. The thought of it makes me gag. I am a little germ-a-phobic when it comes to middle school germs. I hate when they touch my stuff and things that I have to touch. We do have Germ-X in a bunch of the classes. One cool thing that the school has done is install a squirt machine at the end of the lunch line right before they get their trays. They get a squirt of disinfectant foam. Our lunch lady makes sure they all squirt before they are allowed to get their food. Our librarian also has the same machine and stuff in the media center. She makes them squirt before they get on the computers. At MVMS, we take germs seriously!!!!
I have been watching a lot of the college basketball games lately. I do love college basketball too. My only problem is I am not able to stay awake to watch the completion of any game that isn't over by around 8. I am just worn out and go to sleep. This is very unusual for me. I have been known to stay up past midnight to watch a good game. Well, as a matter of fact, I have stayed up that late to watch a few bad games too. Steve has been staying up later than me to watch a few games. Well, let me rephrase that. He wakes up after I'm asleep and finishes the game.
I just saw the best commercial. It is a young guy getting ready to shave, and you hear people singing, "She'll be Comin' Around the Mountain." He finishes lathering up his face and is looking for his razor. The shower curtain opens and his mom and dad are taking a shower together in the same bathroom he is in. The best part is when the mother says, "Sorry, son," and hands him the razor from the shower. His face is priceless. I am not really sure what the commercial is for, but it is sure funny. I love commercials that make you laugh. So many of them insult your intelligence and some are just plain stupid. I really hate some of the commercials on the hunting channels. They really use sex to sell everything. It is simply disgusting. I know that the guys like this stuff, but some of the commercials are very degrading to women.
I think I am going to grab some frozen grapes and head to the bedroom to finish watching the Michigan State and Florida State game. You know, earlier this evening, I could not think of Tom Izzo's name to same my soul. I thought and thought and thought and came up with a blank. It was like a brick hit me in the head when they said his name at the beginning of the game. I find myself having this problem more often. I think I might be getting old. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it until I don't remember my own name. :)

Catch up Tuesday
I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday. My afternoon was hectic. My friend, L. Tav, who has had two chemo treatments, was admitted to St. John's yesterday morning. I went up to see her right after school Monday. She has an infection. They, as of this posting, have not been able to identify where or what the infection is. They have her on a wide spectrum antibiotic until they can pin point the infection. She also has a pretty nasty cough. I spoke with her husband, Tom, and she still is running a temperature. She must stay in the hospital until she is fever free for 48 hours. I will probably go see her Wed. or Thursday after school. I am afraid that they will put her in a quarantined room since she is susceptible to infections since her immune system is weak from the chemo. I'll keep you posted about her condition.
Steve has been feeling quite well the last couple of days. He has been wearing his new hoodie that he got from Bass Pro. The hoodie has a big set of deer antlers on the front. It is also black. I think this is funny because he is always on me for wearing hoodies all the time. Now that he realizes they are so comfortable, he is eating his words. I think I will have to buy him some more. My hoodies are all MU, and I don't think he will wear them. I will have to get him some more "hunting" related themes. Hoodies might become his wardrobe of choice.
It sure was frosty this morning when I got up and went to the gym. 2/2 days is not a bad start to the week. My shoulders are a little sore. I am really starting to like my new routine. The 5 minutes of hard elliptical between my sets really makes a difference. It is more tiring and really makes me sweaty. Was that an over-share? Sorry! I met with my trainer guy today to discuss my food intake. He gave me several suggestions and advice on how to have my "diet" work in my favor instead of against me. I am excited to start using his hints tomorrow. The first of Dec. is a great day to start a readjustment in my eating habits. I think the only issues I will have is cutting out the extras like butter, mayo, salad dressing... I am keeping a workout and food journal. He is going to go over it in a week or two to see how I am doing. I hope he won't need the journal to tell how I am doing. I want people to see the difference in me not read about how I am changing. Oh, I am also sitting on a balance ball at school instead of a chair. You know, working on my core. Our nurse does it and suggested it to me. I am a little sore from balancing all day. I really have to keep my mind on it or I teeter to the side. Pretty funny. I have no natural balance so this is a real challenge for me. My kids are getting a kick out of it. I am hoping that it is the little things that will help me achieve my goals. I'll keep you posted.
School is getting me down. Remember the research papers we have been working on for WEEKS? Well, we are winding down, and it is proofreading time. I spent all day going over research papers and proofing them. Talk about wearing you out. I am exhausted. Luckily, the counselor is in my room tomorrow for the day. I can catch up on proofing and lesson plans. I am a little behind on the plans. With this research paper, we have been winging it daily. That will come to a halt on Friday. I think we will tackle prepositions next...oh, yea!
Samurai had a play date today. He went to the groomer for a bath, nail trim, and play time. He is good looking and smells wonderful now. He is tired too. He loves his play date. The sad thing is his play friend might be pregnant and may not be able to play for a while. Hopefully, the groomer will find him another friend. It might be difficult since he is such a big boy. He is now wearing a snappy Santa Claus neckerchief. HUBBA. HUBBA.
Ozark has been a wonderful elf lately. He has been very tricky with his hiding. He is very fond of lights the past couple of day. Here are a few pictures of him hiding. When he was in the big light in the front room, we only found him because we could hear him whistling. "Some say he is fond of whistling sad ballads." (A line from Young Guns that we used when we were telling Aubree about Ozark's personality.) Now if she can't find him, she asks us if we can hear him whistling. We usually say yes and tip our head in the direction to hear him better. After we say we can hear him, she can hear him too! Aren't children's imaginations wonderful! Why do we have to out grow them?
I am watching Seinfeld as I post. Sure do love this show. Kramer is a hoot. This is the episode where he is wearing the tight, tight jeans. He really cracks me up. You know, everyone needs a Kramer in their life. I think we all have Georges, but we really don't need them. You know the guy who is your friend, but seems to have a pitiful life and it never gets any better. Plus, he always seems to mess things up in your life simply by being there or saying the stupid things. You keep him around because you couldn't imagine life without him. We all also have Jerrys in our lives. The funny guy that is so shallow you could never have a serious conversation with him. You like him because he keeps you laughing and makes your problems seem silly with his strange and true observations. We all have Newmans...enough said. Then there's Elaine...yada, yada, yada. I feel truly sorry for people that do not watch Seinfield, how do they relate to life?

Hiding in the basket above the stove and microwave. Look at him smirk.
He loved hiding in the big light in the dining room. It took Aubree forever to find him this day. Thank goodness he was whistling.
Just swinging from the light fixture in the kitchen. It is an excellent place to watch Aubree be a good girl.

Sunday Stuff
Today was a good day for us. We went out to breakfast. While we were there, we saw an old friend Petey. We used to shoot sporting clays with him. We spent many weekends blasting the clays and having a good time with Petey. It sure brought back some old memories. We had a real nice catch-up visit. Good times. After breakfast, we came home for a quick rest. Then off to Monett. We went to Walmart where I tried to pick out some new paint for my classroom. They are going to paint it black, gold, and white. We also did a little Christmas shopping. After Walmart, we hit Lowes. We were on a mission to find a new Christmas tree. Not the foil one (I am still looking, but I have a promising lead), but a fake green one. Luckily, we did find a great one. It is only in three pieces, and the lights are already on it. A big hit since our old tree was a million pieces, and we had to string the lights. What a mess! We got home and did a fun decoration from the dining room light. I got the idea from the Home Depot commercial. Boy, I have really been influenced by television lately. Next thing you know, I will be thinking that all our technology is from aliens. :)
Steve has been feeling good today. No naps. Yea us!!! His legs and feet are feeling a little better. As you know, night is the worst for him when it comes to his feet and legs. He did switch to his Clark's today (shoes) and that might have helped. You know you should not wear the same shoes everyday. I have been wearing my Doc boots. I just love them. They are one of my favorite things to wear when the weather gets cold. Steve also has some good "hiking" boots that I am sure will be on his feet soon. Our temps. are supposed to be cold this week. No moisture in the forecast through Saturday. After that, who knows.
Aubree went to Cody's this noon to celebrate their Thanksgiving. When she got home, she helped me fix dinner. We had potato soup and grilled cheese. Let me tell you that that girl can spread the butter and place the cheese. The dinner was wonderful because we added love to the soup and sandwiches. After eating, she also helped me make suet for the birds. We have a secret recipe that the birds love. I can tell you the ingredients but I can't tell you the amounts. If I did, it wouldn't be a secret recipe. We mix lard, peanut butter, sunflowers, bread crumbs, corn meal, chopped peanuts, corn pieces, and thistle. I like to make different things for the birds at my house. This year, we are going to put out our old Christmas tree as a bird tree. We are going to string popcorn and hang feeders. Can't wait. We will do it on the next really pretty semi-warm afternoon. You know I have to take care of my little feathered friends.
Tomorrow school starts again. Don't get depressed. We have Christmas vacation starting the 21st. That is like three weeks and some days. I know I can last that long. Then we get off until the 3rd. We are still working on our research papers. We are starting the introductions and conclusions tomorrow. We are going to finish our rough drafts, proof, and rewrite the final publications. Then the real fun starts...reading and grading about 110 reports. WEEEEEEEE! I am planning on going to the gym tomorrow morning. I am afraid my body will revolt against getting up early and working out again. My goal is to make it all five days this week. That's two days upper, two days lower and one day a combo of both. You see, I am making myself accountable by telling you. This way if I don't do it, I have to confess to you. On the other hand, when I do do it, I will be able to brag to you.
We are watching Pumpkin Chunkin' on the Science Channel. Boy let me tell you, some of these chunkers are obsessed with flipping the orange. There are several categories: the catapult, the pressure blaster(air cannon), people powered, trebuchets(1972 feet chunk won this category last year), and others I can't remember. Did you know pumpkin chunkin' is considered a sport? Me neither. Hurling gourds into the heavens. Victor will bask in the glory of pumpkin chunkin history....these are some of the phrases they use in the introduction of the show. Each team has three minutes to fire their pumpkin. The whole field where they land is mapped with GPS technology and they use that to get an accurate distance. Amazing. I wonder if the aliens that gave us the GPS technology pumpkin chunk? What do you think? Maybe it is an ancient sport that was part of the first Olympics and we are just now adopting it as our own.
Steve designed our hanging arrangement. Isn't he good?
A view of the new tree and hanging arrangement.
New floral arrangement and Christmas table runner. I made the runner. I got the arrangement at the Farmer's Market in KC.
Table with Samurai checking it out.

Rainy, rainy Saturday
Today was a really rainy day here in Mt. Vernon and the surrounding areas. It started raining before I got up at 7:30 and has been raining or misting since. Today was an adventurous day for us. It is what we call a date day. We went to Joplin. We had a couple of errands to run. We had to get a deionizer from the hot tub place. After that, we were going to go to Connie's Flea Market. The guy at the hot tub place said that Connie's moved downtown on Main Street. So off we headed. We never did find Connie's but we did find another place. We went to the Joplin Flea Market. I think it should be renamed the Joplin Flee Market. As soon as I got in the door, I wanted to flee. It was a real junk market. We did walk around, but we found nothing. After we left that place, we continued driving down Main. We drove through the tornado area. I have never been there before. It was sooooo sad. I mean 6 months after the disaster and it still is a total mess. I can see how people could not find their lots. Some of the neighborhoods had absolutely nothing recognizable left. There were a few new houses kind of stuck out in the middle of nothing...just barren streets. I am so glad I never went over there when it was a fresh site. I think it would have really upset me. I don't know how some of the neighborhoods will ever be the same. I also think Joplin was lucky that there were no more deaths. I have not driven down Rangeline to see the wreckage of the business district. After that tour, we drove around parts of Joplin I have never seen. We went to what is called Rangeline Antiques. It is where the old Connie's used to be. I was on a mission. I really want one of those old silver foil trees. You know the kind that used to be really popular. Ours was decorated with blue glass bulbs. It also had a light with a rotating color disk that made the tree look like it was changing colors. I would like a big one of these, but Steve says I can only get a small one. It really doesn't matter now because we did not find one. We only went through half of the store because we wanted to eat and make it home in time for the game. I did purchase a teapot, creamer, sugarer, and 4 cups and saucers that match my Christmas china. I was really glad about that. We saw several other things that we liked but not enough to purchase. We have been talking about changing some or our decorating. If we do that, we make go marketing again. It is not one of Steve's favorite things to do. He was such a good sport to go with me today. In fact, it was his idea. He is so good to me. We ate at an Italian place by the mall. It was really good. I can't remember the name. It began with a C. We ate at one while we were traveling this summer, but we didn't realize it until we looked a the menu.
After a morning of adventure, we headed back home. We watched the MU/KU Border War. Let me tell you, I was really concerned during the first half. Holy Cow! We were pitiful. I didn't think there was anyway we would be able to beat KU. Franklin threw 3 interceptions. Not that they were so good; we were just so bad. I guess at halftime they got their act together. They came out and dominated the game from then on. I was so excited at some of our plays. Koleen and Shawn were at the game. They sure saw a good second half. I don't think we could have lasted in the cold. Gary P. did say that we still might play KU in a non-conference game. That would be nice. It seems a shame to end a 120 year tradition. Like I have said before...if we don't play KU, who do I hate! I will have to retrain Aubree too. She hates the Jayhawks just like her Oma.
Steve has been feeling great. He has had a lot of energy. He has been on the go. The only thing is that after he goes, he crashes. He did that today. We got home, and he watched the game. He did fall asleep during halftime. He thought he would get up, but was just pooped. He did sleep until dinner was ready, which I will tell you about here in a minute. He did eat, but now he is in the chair "watching" the Baylor and Tech game. His eyes are closed, and he is snoring a little. He will sleep until I wake him up to go to bed. I really hate to do that. It seems silly to wake him up so he can move to the bed and go back to sleep. He insists. He gets so made at me if I go to bed and leave him sleeping in the chair. I made that mistake when we were first married. I thought I was being the "good" wife. I covered him with a blanket and went back to bed. Several hours later he woke up and came back to the bedroom. He woke me up and asked why I didn't wake him up. He said never do that again. If I went to bed, he wanted to go to bed too. How silly! I did learn my lesson and have never let him sleep in the chair when I went back to bed.
Dinner was an experiment tonight. It was totally influenced by television. I got the idea from a Campbell's soup commercial. I made mashed potatoes and then we ladled soup over it. You know stew kind of soup, not like chicken noodle--silly. It was really white trash, but it was good. It would be good with several of their thicker soups too. It kind of reminded me of the chicken potato bowl that Kentucky Fried Chicken has. That is the ultimate white trash dish. You know mixing everything together and lapping it up with a spoon. I think being white trash is not that bad. It is the closet trash that makes me mad. You know, they pretend they don't do the white trash things when they do
1. Pulling the granddaughter in a laundry basket behind the lawn mower when it snows
2. Turning the hot tub down and then lounging in it on air rafts during the summer
3. Mixing corn and mashed potatoes together at dinnertime
4. Wearing those Snuggies you see on television as you watch television
5. Tuck your shirt in your underwear so it doesn't come untucked when you sit down
You get the idea. I am proud to say, we do all of those and more. Long live white trash!!!!!!
Ozark was hiding again this morning. He was sitting on top of the pillar between the kitchen and the dining room. Aubree found him right off. She yelled, "I found him!" and then proceeded to barge into the bedroom to wake me up and inform me that," Ozark is not a very good hider." I think Ozark might be getting a little fed up with being found so quickly. He will probably step up his game and go for the harder places to find.

Don't Know Much...
So it's the Friday after Thanksgiving. You know, the one they call Black Friday. We didn't really go Black Friday shopping but....
We went to Springfield to take the boat to Tracker Marine Service Center so it could be winterized. We dropped the boat off at 10. That is way early to eat lunch, so what is a person supposed to do for that hour? Well, of course they should go to Bass Pro. Yes, we did. We got a couple of Christmas gifts, but mostly we got some good stuff for Steve. He got a new lined denim jacket. I really like it. The stuff that we really wanted was not on sale. We will be in Springfield in Dec. for a couple of doctor appointments. It was not really crowded at Bass Pro. We had a good time. After that, we went to the Quilt Sampler. I thought I was going to buy some fabric, but once I got in the store, I wasn't in the mood to buy any new material. Don't get me wrong, they have a large selection of beautiful fabric. I just was unprepared. I don't do well with on the spot fabric purchases unless I simply LOVE the material. That didn't happen today. We met Elizabeth and Justin at Buckinghams on Sunshine. They didn't eat since they just finished breakfast. We had a nice visit. We came home after lunch.
Since it was a nice day, Aubree and I went bike riding on the Frisco Trail. It was a blast. We took my hybrid and Aubree's bike. She had to pedal herself today. We went 2 miles up and 2 miles back. She did a great job. She was a little freaked at the beginning because there was a little drop off on the sides of the trail. It is about 8-10 feet wide. She rode in the middle until she got some confidence about riding near the edge. She was leader most of the way. We stopped and rested on mile 2. Fortunately, there was a nice bench for us to sit on. We stayed there a little while. When we were getting ready to leave, a twin engine plane flew right over our heads a little above tree top level. The trail is next to the old Springfield Airport. We loved that. The way home was a little tougher than the way back. We stopped several times to rest and get drinks. We did bring our Camelbaks. We did push our bikes a little ways so give our legs a break. We had a wonderful time. On the way home in the car, Aubree ate her apple and mine. She fell asleep right as I pulled into the garage. She was pooped. I think she will want to go again.
I came home and worked on a sewing project. I also finished watching the LSU/Arkansas game. It was a good one. Steve went to Joplin to do some errands. We met at the Mexican Restaurant in town for supper. We had to wake Aubree to go. She was cranky at first, but once she started telling Opa about our ride, she snapped out of it.
We are home now watching the Pitt and W. VA game. We are trying to decide what games we want to watch tomorrow. There are so many good ones to pick from.
I think I will be going to bed early. I have not warmed up from the bike ride so I think a hot bath is on the agenda. Then I will snuggle up and go to sleep. Steve accused me of being a bed hog last night. He only had a tiny space to sleep in. I guess I will have to be more aware of my body position as I sleep. I don't want to be accused of hogging again tonight. You see I think it is because he has been getting up and going to the front room. When he is gone, I can spread eagle. I must think he is gone all night and just start grabbing my space before he leaves. So, really this is all his fault. I never did this before he started leaving and hitting the chair. So you see, he really brought this whole issue on himself. :)
Steve has been feeling quite well the past couple of days. He did great at Thanksgiving. He ate so much I thought he might blow up like a dog tick. He did fall asleep in the chair for a little while, but it was not bad. Today he did great. He drove the car with the boat trailer to Springfield. I drove after we dropped of the boat. He right foot was really bothering him. It hurt worse after we left Bass Pro. He did comment tonight that he couldn't believe how sore it still was. It doesn't surprise me since we did do quite a bit of walking around the store today. He was wearing his good walking shoes, but they still will bother him. Hopefully, tonight she will be able to rest and it won't keep him up.
Tomorrow it is supposed to be yucky and rainy. They say the temps will be dropping all day. I don't think there is any snow in the forecast. I think we will just take it easy at home. The only place we would go would be to Springfield. We were on the other side of town today and noticed some new restaurants that we wanted to try. We might have to hit one of those for lunch tomorrow. The only thing I ask is that we are home in time for the big MU/KU game. If I wake up early enough, I will go to the gym, cut then again.....
Oh, Ozark was in a totally different place this morning. He was hiding in the top of the evergreen tree that is in our front hallway. She found him straight away. She came up the stairs, looked where he was yesterday, and then spotted him in the tree. Opa was a little upset since he suggested the place to Ozark before Ozark made his trip to the North Pole. Aubree was so excited that she found him and that he had a good report for Santa. I am wondering where he will be in the morning.

The Little Things
Aubree
Aubree named our elf Ozark. At first she just thought it was silly because, "He's just stuffed, Oma." We had a hard time explaining the rules to her because she did not believe.
1. You must never touch your elf.
2. He can only talk to adults, but he can listen to children.
3. Every night he uses his elf magic to go to the North Pole to tell Santa about the children at the house. Were they naughty or nice?
4. Each morning, Ozark will be in a different place watching. The children must find him and tell them what they want Santa to know.
5. He will stay until Christmas Eve and then he will go back to the NP to stay with Santa until Thanksgiving next year.

Full House
Today we had a full house. Everyone was here: Amelia, Aubree, Elizabeth, Koleen, Steve, and me. We ate fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, and rolls. We had a good visit. Elizabeth's dog, Hunter, came too. Samurai and Hunter run around like crazy. Hunter is a small spaniel, and as you know, Samurai is an Akita. Samurai loves to play with Hunter. Hunter grabs Samurai's neck and drives Samurai crazy. When Samurai has had enough, he simply pins Hunter down and lays on him. It is pretty funny to watch. They are good buds.
Steve has not felt well today. He has spent a lot of the day resting. He just feels yucky. I know he is also fatigued. He has had the chills several times. We were lucky it was a rainy and cold day so it was the perfect lazing around day. I did get a little nap in this afternoon before Koleen made it home. I am going to go to bed early tonight since I must be at the gym by 5 so I can make coffee by 7. You know you have to have your priorities. :)
We had a pretty lazy day today. I got up and went to the grocery story early. I purchased all the stuff for several meals. I fried chicken today, browned hamburger for chili and taco pizza, and browned stew meat. I also made some olive spread for a snack. I was busy, but it was a good kind of busy. I told you last week that I liked to to this kind of stuff so I am not running around like an idiot during the week. Koleen is going to be home until Thursday. She is always complaining that we eat good stuff when she is not here, so I decided to make some of the things she likes. I'll tell you a little secret. I love the fried chicken chunks when they are cold. They are my favorite breakfast. Please don't tell Koleen because she thinks that I made them special for her.
Koleen got home about 3:00 this afternoon. When she got home, we started to work on a sewing project that she wants to complete while she is home. It is a quilt. The material is beautiful. It is made from a Charm Pack that she ordered online from Missouri Star Quilt Company. I'll post a picture when it is finished. You will be impressed with the improvements she has made in her sewing techniques.
