31

31 is the number of visitors PeaGoulash has had today.  Yes, you read correctly...31.  I believe this is a new record for us.  WEEEEEEE!  We are so blessed to have so many people that love us.  Like I have said so many times before, this makes our hearts feel wonderful.  I am also so happy that the news gets better and better.  I reread from the first post till today.  Steve has been a miracle boy. He looks like a totally new person from the time he was in the hospital to today.  I feel so blessed that he is 1,000,000,000...times better better than the first post.  Call us lucky, lucky, lucky.

It was a good day today.  Steve got up really early and went hunting near Golden City.  He was so quiet when he left that I didn't hear him.  I slept in.  (Yea, me)  Steve called about 9:00 and said he had shot a nice buck.   It was a 7 pointer.  Three point on one side and 4 on the other.  He took the buck to the Lockwood processing plant, so we did not get to see it.  He was so happy.  He was especially proud of his bloody jeans.  You should have seen him smile when he was telling Aubree about the kill.  She was a little upset because she wanted it to hang in our trees for a while.  Opa said it was too warm to hang him.   She got un-upset when he told her that there would be more jerky.

While Steve was hunting, I was cooking.  I made stuffed pasta noodles.  I made a cheese, hamburger, and tomato sauce.  I put them in snail looking uncooked pasta shells.  Aubree and I decided that we would call the dish, "Garys" after Sponge Bob's snail, Gary.  Aubree thought that was cool.  We are going to eat them later this week.  I also made a meatloaf and froze it.  I love to do mass cooking.  I should do it every weekend, but alas, I don't.

We took a nap this afternoon and then headed to Walmart.  I opened all the windows in the house to get some fresh air.  It was sure windy again today.  We had to do some grocery shopping.  We also picked up some Christmas wrapping paper, some ornaments, and boxes.  We thought it might be easier to do a little at a time.  I got the ornaments to make a hanging decoration.  If you watch television, I got the idea from the Home Depot commercial where the lady hangs ornaments from her chandler.  We picked up green and red so I could try this.   Steve is a good supporter when I want to try stuff like this.  We grabbed some Braum's for supper.  I also got a scoop of mint chip chocolate and Steve got chocolate almond in a waffle cone.  We don't get Braum's very often.  It beats McDonald's.

We are now at home, crashing in front of the television. We are watching a special on the Alaska:  the gold rush, the pipeline, bush pilots, and the earthquake.  It is a very interesting show.  It means more to us now since we have been in some of the towns they mention.  The scenery is beautiful, just like in real life.I'm not sure I would like the below zero wind chills and feet, feet, feet of snow.  Maybe a summer house there and a winter house somewhere else.

No big plans this week.  It is the last full week before Thanksgiving break.  I am counting down.  It should be a nice and quiet week for us.

The Blustery Day

I just love the Pooh episode called The Blustery Day.  When I was outside today, I felt like Piglet and Pooh being blown around.  The wind was strong all day long.  It really howled. I heard that it was a sustained wind of at least 35 mph.   It made me think of the winds across the plains.  You know they said in the olden days, people used to go crazy because of the nonstop howling wind.  I can see it happening.  When we lived on the farm, it seemed that the wind blew all the time.  Not strong winds but just breezes.  Wind just kind of drives you crazy.  I hate to have wind blowing in my ears.

Today Steve went "jerky" hunting.  He went up to the cousins' in Lockwood.  He did not get a shot at anything.  He did have to hike to his stand.  It wore him out today.  After leaving the stand, he went to see the deer the others shot.  Noah got a big ole buck.  Way to go, Noah!!  He stayed and visited for a while and then headed home.  His plan is to head up towards Golden City tomorrow morning to hit the stand again.  You know we brought him a new set of coveralls.   He said they were so warm today.  They tighten on the top of his boots with a lining.  They have a turtleneck upper lining.  He said he actually got hot.  I was thrilled to hear that.  I was nervous that he would be an ice cube when he finally made it to the truck.  It was a good investment.  I wish I could explain to you how happy my heart is because he is hunting again.  I see it as steps towards getting the old Steve back.  I know it takes a toll on him, but he seems so happy that he is doing it too.  I love the way his eyes sparkle when he tells me his hunting stories.  I learned a long time ago, that sometimes he exaggerates, so I just smile and keep my giggles inside.  We are so blessed!

When I got home from Carthage, he was resting.  I picked up a McRib for his lunch.  We watched the rest of the Missouri/Texas game.  Mizzou pulled it out for a victory.  I was soooo happy.  The first victory over Texas in years!  We only need one more victory to be bowl eligible.  I have faith that we will win at least one more game.  It was a lazy afternoon for us after the game was over.  We watched some of other games between naps.  Steve got rested and is watching the LSU game as I post.  My guess is he will be sleeping soon.  4:30 comes quickly.

Betty and I had a wonderful time in Carthage.  We went to the quilt store called Block by Block.  It was a cute store, not really big, but not small either.  They had a nice selection of fabric, books, and notions. I purchased the material to finish the Christmas present.  I also picked up some 4th of July fabric to make a table runner.  It was on sale, so how could I go wrong?  After shopping, we went to Wendy's for lunch.  It was a short trip, but actually just the right size since Betty was starting to get tired.  We came home on Route 66.   I have such a good time with Betty.  I am sure blessed to have a friend like her.  She told me some stories about Birl and her after the war.  I love to hear those stories.  I wish I knew her when she was younger.  She was probably a feisty thing.   I'll go Monday and Tuesday to see her again.    She wants me to help her with the computer at the home.  She wants to send a few emails.

I finished one of the Christmas presents I have been working on.  I can't post a picture encase the person that I made it for reads.  You never know.  I should break 8,000 hits this week.  Unbelievable!!!!  I have already started on the next present.  I was just scatterbrained today while I sewed.  I couldn't concentrate on the little things, so I quit early and came to post.  I was watching a Dirty Harry movie:  The Enforcer.
Boy, I love Dirty Harry.  The Enforcer is not my favorite, but it is the one that popped up on the CD I put in.  I don't have a television in my "sewing" room.   I watch movies on my computer.  Like I have mentioned before, I usually watch chick flicks while I sew.  I was just in a Dirty Harry mood tonight.  He is just one cool cat.  I love the 70s music and the stereotypes of the characters.  It is hard to believe that Clint Eastwood is a wonderful director now.  I will probably sew in the morning while Steve hunts.

I got a call from the Quilt Sampler today.  The class that I was going to take next Sunday afternoon has been cancelled.  I am bumming.  I have already purchased the special ruler and the book.  I guess I will have to tackle it by myself.  I'll keep you posted on how endeavor goes.  I probably will not start it until I get all the presents finished.  It might be a snow day project.

As I predicted earlier, Steve is sleeping now.  I am going to stop and watch the rest of the LSU game.  That is if I don't fall asleep first.

Happy Veteran's Day!  What a wonderful day for us to remember the people that have made our way of life possible.  America is such a great place.

It is Friday night, and I am watching Night at the Roxbury.  I sure do enjoy this movie.  I can watch this movie over and over.  It is so stupid, yet it is sit and giggle funny.  Those two brothers really crack me up.  Fluffy Whip is a must for all good parties.  :)  I have the song, " What is Love..." as an alarm tone on my phone.  Just love it.  My head wants to start rocking whenever it starts.  Thank goodness I don't wear shiny leisure suites.

Steve is resting.  He had a really busy day today.  He mowed the leaves.  It really wore him out.  He did hurt his side while he was bending over picking up branches.  He did eat supper, but was worn out.  He has big plans this weekend.  It is the first weekend of gun season.  I am so excited for him.  It is supposed to be really windy so I hope he can still get a deer.  He is planning on getting up at 4:30, so he can hit the woods before sunrise.  Remember he is hunting up by Lockwood.  I really hope he gets a big one.  He has been getting ready for this all week.  He washed all his hunting clothes in no-smell detergent and sealed them in a garbage bag so they wouldn't pick up any smells.  He has set his alarm, and he had me set mine too.  He has fixed the coffee pot so it is ready to just push the button and instant coffee.  He is like a little kid.  I am not sure how long he will last in the woods, but no matter how long he does, it will be better than sitting at home wishing he were there.

I am taking my friend, Betty, to a quilt shop in Carthage tomorrow.  I saw the sign on the highway on the way home from KC.  I have never been there and thought this was a great chance to go.  I called Betty to see if she wanted to go with me someplace on Saturday, and she said yes before I even told her where we were going.  That is amazing because she never wants to go anywhere.  I think we are going to have a good time.  I am going to pick up some material for a Christmas present.  I hope they have a good selection.  Maybe we will hit some flea markets in Carthage too.

I am also planning to sew tomorrow afternoon.  I have a few projects I need to finish before Christmas.

It has been a hectic week.  We are working on research project.  Believe me,  it is a pull-out-the-hair kind of project.  We are doing Ancient Egypt.  This is the first time we have tried this topic.  Usually we do animals.  I picked the Ancient Egypt so it would be a cross-curricular project.  You see they study Ancient Egypt in social studies.  Hopefully, next week will be better.

I finished a great book this week.  It is called The Boy Who Dared.  It is about a boy during the rise of Hitler.  He lives in Germany and experiences all the loss of freedoms.  It was beautifully written and made you feel like you were there.  It is full of heartbreak and bravery.  In fact, I cried at the end.  The boy tries to fight the Nazis by printing pamphlets telling the German people the truth.  He also listens to the BBC and learns the truth.  Of course, this is all against the law in wartime Germany.   He involves his friends in his plans.  They want to help because they are sick of the lack of freedom.  They believe if they are caught, they will be charged as juveniles and the punishment will not be as harsh.  You can guess some of the rest.  I will not spoil it if you want to read the book.  All I hope is that if I am ever in a situation like this, I will be as brave and stand up for what I believe is right like these young men.  To me it is scary to think that this book is based on a true story.  It makes me cry to think of what was going on before and during WWII.  Terrible things that should never ever happen again.  I think we have the responsibility to make sure that it does not happen again.  We should learn from history and not repeat the mistakes that were made.

I'm back on my censorship box.  Blue Springs School District, outside Kansas City, pulled Hold Still by Nina LaCour from their high school collection because a girl's parents complained about a book their 14 year-old daughter read.  The book was on an extra credit book list.  After finishing the book, the girl complained to her parents.  They did not think the content was appropriate...to mature, sexual, and full of foul language.  They even got their pastor involved in the fight.  Nothing like mixing church and state.  It amazes me that a huge, progressive district would have a knee-jerk reaction.  They didn't even follow the district's policy for this kind of issue.  The ACLU is thinking about getting involved.  Crazy isn't it. I've read several reviews on this book, and it is supposed to be a great book.  It is one of the Gateway books for next year.  I am going to read it, so when the fight comes to Mt. Vernon, I am prepared to defend the rights of all the students.  You know if this flies in Blue Springs, other districts will think they can get away with it.  I really hate that this is happening again.  It reminds me of the beginning of the book I just finished.  Only "approved" books were allowed.  Kind of scary when you think of it that way.  A few controlling the reading material of the masses.  How dare they think they can get away with it.  The fight is on.  You know another scary thing about censorship is the tricky way some people get away with it.  In a professional magazine for media center specialists, it talked about districts that moved books to different parts of their collection to discourage children from reading them.  Some restricted the books a child could read based on his reading level.  I know from experience, one way to get a child to read a book that is going to be difficult for him to read is to tell him it is too hard for him.  Talk about motivating them to read.  Sometimes the schools make a letter from the parents required for the child to check out a book.  Some schools just simply refuse to purchase questionable books. I am sorry for rambling.   You know this topic is close to my heart.  It is something I feel very strongly about.

Another thing that has me upset is the Penn State drama.  I wish I knew all the real details.  I can't help think that they are keeping some information from us.  The university is making some pretty life changing decisions.  I mean Joe Pa has been there since 1966.  Think of all the lives he has touched and changed.   College football would be so different if he had not been involved.  My big questions is why now?  What/who broke this story?  Did they fire him because he announced he was going to retire at the end of the season, and they are using his firing to draw the attention from the real issues?  I know the students at Penn State reacted in a crazy manner.  They also have made death threats on the assistant coach.  A cinder block was thrown through the window of the accused child abuser.  Talk about CRAZY!

Holy cow, I guess I really need to relax a little.  This has been a couple of deep paragraphs.  My blood pressure rises just thinking about these.  I think a nice bubble bath is in order.

Already Tuedsay

I got on the blog today to post and was surprised that I have not posted since Saturday. I thought I posted earlier this week.  I must be loosing my mind.

I had a good visit with Koleen this weekend.  We got up Sunday morning and hit the IHOP and had breakfast.  You know that place is packed all the time.  I think they could double the restaurants size, and it still would have a waiting list.  After breakfast, we went past Dot's for a visit.  She was doing better.  Her jaw was still swollen, but she was keeping things down.  All this is good.

I headed home about 12 or so.  I stopped at a couple of shops in Osage Beach.  They were having their Christmas Open Houses.  They had some wonderful, beautiful things.  I didn't purchase anything.  I was just getting ideas.  I will probably go back when I start decorating our house.  I am just not good at remembering what decorations I have.  I hate to buy things if I don't know where I am going to put it.

Steve had a good weekend.  He was not really busy.  I think he was just flying low.  I know he took several naps.  He is doing ok now.  He is tired.  He hauled the BBQ grill down to the vacant lot to dump the ashes.  He might have stressed his side.  I know it is really hurting him now.  He fixed dinner for me tonight.  He grilled BBQ ribs and steaks.  (I don't like ribs).  The steaks were delicious.  He always does a great job grilling.  After supper, he went back to watch TV, but when I checked on him, he was out.  He slept for a couple of hours.  He did wake up to get a drink and is now up watching Auction King.

Aubree is sleeping at the foot of our bed.  Amelia had a volleyball game at 9.

We have had a couple days of rain.  We had 7" total since Sunday night.  That is amazing.  I am hoping the ponds are filling up.  I am also thankful that it was not cold enough for it to be snow.  We started our research project this week, so I know snow days are possible.  Of course, the computers at school were acting up today.  It never fails.  I am hoping that they are back online tomorrow.  I hate when our technology is down.  We depend on it a lot.

I have still been going to the gym.  I have actually upped the weight on several of the machines.  I feel wonderful.  I just wish my changes were more visible.  I know that will come.  It is still not really crowded at 5-5:30 in the morning.  It is the same 4 or so there everyday.  I like it not being crowded.

I guess I can not put it off any longer.  I have to discuss the move to the SEC.  I have very mixed emotions about this.  I am afraid that everything I grew up believing is now wrong.  Why should I hate KU now?  I mean if the Tigers don't hate the Jayhawks, what it the purpose?  Who do I hate now?  I think it might be a good move for the basketball team, but I am really concerned about our football record over the next couple of years.  I only hope that we make a respectable showing.  I might be worried for no reason.  Obviously, there are wiser men making these decisions, or at least I hope they are wiser than me.  Like with all things...time will tell.

What a day!!

It is late Saturday night.  I am going to post a short bit about my day.  I ate breakfast with my parents and then headed to Columbia.  I had a very nice visit with my folks.  I sure do miss them.

I arrived in Columbia around 12 and picked up Shawn.  We went to Koleen's fabric store.  Holy cow!  It is a wonderful store.  You would not believe the wide variety of fabrics they have.  I could have spent the whole day there and practically did.  I got several pieces of fabric.  I can't tell you about them because some of them are for Christmas presents.  I did pick up some material for a couple of table runners for me.  I'll post pictures when I am done with them.  They will not be completed soon, but I will get them done after my Christmas quilt and the presents.  After Koleen got off work, we went to supper at a Mexican restaurant that was downtown.   It was good and filling.  After that, we went to Walmart and picked up a few things.  We went home and started sewing on a project.  I brought my machine, cutters and iron.  We had a great time.  About halfway through the project, we got a call from Koleen's friend, Dot.  She had her wisdom teeth pulled Friday.  She was very sick from the medicine.  She had been throwing up since Friday afternoon.  We went over to her house.  She was in terrible shape.  We tried to get a hold of her dentist, but he did not return our messages we left at the emergency number.  We finally had to take her to the emergency room;  we really had no choice.  Once we were at the hospital, they gave her shots of pain medicine, nausea medicine, and IV liquids.  She looked better after about 15 minutes on the IV.  Beth, Dot's roommate, arrived and took over for us.  We came home. We did get our project finished and I retired to bed.  It is now about 12:00 midnight.  This is really late for me.

I am not sure how much sleep I will get.  I forget how noisy an apartment full of college students can be.  Koleen also has a kitten, Xavier.  He has a little bel on his collar and is dinging all around the place.  He has jumped on the computer at least 5 times since I started to post.  Koleen warned me that he might want to sleep right by my face.  I have never had an animal sleep by my face, so we will have to see how this works out.  Tomorrow, we might go bike riding.  If it is cold, we will probably not do that.  No sense in risking getting sick or catching a cold.  I will probably head home around noon or so.  It is not a bad drive back, but it is a little boring.  I have somethings to accomplish at home if I am not tired when I get there.  We shall see.

Travelin' Fool

I am on the road again.  I left after school today, and I am sitting at my parent's house watching the USC/Colorado game.  They live up in Laurie, Missouri, by the Lake of the Ozarks.  I decided that I needed to come and visit.  My dad fell last week and really hurt his knee.  He was chair bound all week.  He went to the doctor on Thursday.  The doctor said that his knee was ok, but he really needed to watch how he used it.  He does not need to wear a brace unless it starts to bother him.  He is so lucky.  I was really concerned when they told me about his fall.  He fell down the stairs in his out building.  He thought there were 12 steps, and there were really 13.   He landed on his knee.  That is a blessing.  It could have been worse if he hit his head or hurt his knee more than he did.  I am having a real nice visit.  I brought several of my quilt projects to have a "show and tell" with my mama.  I showed them Pea Goulash.  Dad got a kick out of it, and could not believe that people actually read about our life.  He also thought the name Pea Goulash was funny.  Mom, of course, is worried that I am being stalked by some creep that reads it.  She is very untrusting of the internet.  Sometimes you forget how good it feels to go home.

Tomorrow morning, I am going to eat breakfast with them and then head for Columbia.  I am going to spend Saturday afternoon and night with Koleen.  I am going to her new store where she works to check it our.  We are going to watch the LSU/Alabama game, sew, and ride our bikes on the Katy Trail.  It should be an exciting weekend.

Steve is going to take it easy while I am gone, or so he says.  I talked to him tonight, and he was ready for bed.  He has been feeling a little better each day.  If he doesn't really push it, he feels better.  You know how that goes.  I think if the weather is nice, he will probably mow the leaves.  Yes, you read right.  Mow the leaves.  He just loves to chop up those puppies.  The sad thing is that since we have white oak trees, the leaves fall down right behind the mower.  He gets so frustrated.  We will have leaves dropping until the new spring buds push them of the branches.  That's the way it is with native trees.  I am lucky that we don't have a plow on that mower, or he would be on it year round :)

Big Discovery

Aubree came running in from outside just now. She came running straight back to the bedroom to tell us her newest discovery.  She hollered, " Do you know poop floats?"  I asked her if that is what she learned at school today.  She said no.  Amelia followed her and said they came running from the car in the rain, and Aubree announced she would melt.  Amelia said, "No, poop floats!"  Aubree is pretty tickled about her new discovery.  ajtgehnmpq2tewtrhywr6uge6r t6w8rwetre6 ggdsyyhrttw6 uhstiut6yuwyetqwt tyeuyrtuertrt0763itueygryidujdfuy 8123 yyyterywtu rytyryrghsdhgfd  (a short note from Aubree)  I wish you could hear her giggle about this.  You know poop is really a four letter word.

When I got home from school, Steve was crashed in bed.  He had a busy day.  He went grocery shopping for me this morning.  I made him a detailed list (making sure to put all the items from the same aisle on the list together)  He is such a good helper.  It really saves me time if he does the shopping.  It will also force me to be more organized and plan my menus and lists.  After this trip, he headed north to place his deer stand for rifle season.  He was so excited about this.  He had to do a bunch of walking in tall CRP grass to find the perfect spot.  This plum tuckered him out.  His feet are really bothering him today.  He feels fine except the fatigue and feet.  I think rest will fix both.

After supper we watched Grown Ups.  What a funny show.  I even heard some belly chuckles coming from his direction.  Sometimes you need just a good belly laugh.

We are preparing for the weather change that is supposed to be heading our way.  Today it was 70 and the high tomorrow is supposed to be in the low 40s.  That's a big difference.  I am going to be honest with you, I am worried about waking up and going to the gym.  It is going to be chilly.  I think tomorrow sounds like the perfect curl-up in bed with a book day.  The National Weather Service even mentioned flurries.

Aubree has passed out her kisses for the night and headed down stairs.  We are watching Rocket City Rednecks.  They are making a solar powered engine to go to Mars.  They are testing their ideas on Daddy's fishing boat with an air pig as the tank.  They have covered satellite dishes with little circular mirrors and mylar film and clamped them to the back of the boat. It works, even against the wind.  Like I have said before, if you haven't seen this show, you need to take the time to treat yourself to this show.  You might even learn something.
