Home Health Nurse, Wound-Vac, and Best Friends

Here it is already Thursday.  Boy, I'm not sure if time if flying or I am so out of it I don't realize what day it is.  :)  Wednesday, the home health nurse, Wendy, came and put on Steve's wound-vac.  Not to bad....Almost 1.5 hours of paperwork before the actual applying began.  Very frustrating.   The wound-vac is really very simple.  It is foam and tape hooked up to a suction machine.  It keeps a constant suction on the wound drawing it together and sucking anything bad out of it.  It does make a little noise, but really it is not to bad.  The only draw back is the alarm and at least an hour each time it is changed.  The alarm  was beeping several times in the night saying that the suction was broken.  We had to wake up and check the tape and retape where it was "leaking".  He will get this changed every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  The machine comes in a nice black "man purse".  It weighs a about 8 or so pounds, which doesn't seem like much to us, but to poor Steve, it might as well weigh 100 pounds.  The bag slings around his neck and shoulder so the weight is distributed and won't hurt his shoulder so much.  Now he has two contraptions hanging at his side.  Hopefully, tomorrow we can get rid of the chest tube.  We have an appointment with Dr. P.

The sunshine has been good for Steve.  He sat outside yesterday watching Aubree ride her bike.  He also walked around for a bit.  He tires easily, but every little bit of movement helps him heal.
